Getting started
Accounts, first setup on phone and web, and how MileLedger fits together.
What is MileLedger?
MileLedger is a mileage and expense tracking app for phone made by Cytrix Technologies. It stores your data locally on your device and optionally syncs to the cloud through Google Sign-In, giving you a private, reliable record wherever you are.
How MileLedger works
MileLedger captures drives on your phone, lets you attach expenses to trips, and compiles everything into reports you can export. Here's how the pieces fit together.
Create a MileLedger account
MileLedger uses Google Sign-In for authentication — there are no separate usernames or passwords to create. You can sign in from the phone app or directly in the web app.
Sign in to MileLedger
MileLedger uses Google Sign-In on both phone and web. Here's how to sign in to each platform and what to do if something goes wrong.
Get started with MileLedger on phone
Follow these steps to install MileLedger, complete the onboarding flow, add your first vehicle, and record your first drive — all from your phone.
Get started with MileLedger on the web
The MileLedger web app at mileledger.app/app lets you view synced trips and expenses, filter records, and export CSV files from any browser — no installation required.
Navigate the MileLedger dashboard
MileLedger has a Home tab dashboard on phone and a web app dashboard at mileledger.app/app. Both give you an at-a-glance view of your mileage and expenses. Here's what each area shows and how to navigate it.
Set up your profile
Your MileLedger profile is created automatically when you sign in with Google. Your display name and profile picture come directly from your Google account. You can view account details and manage your session from More → Account.
Configure mileage preferences
MileLedger's mileage preferences control how drives are detected, what rate is used for calculations, and other tracking behaviours. Access them from More → Preferences on phone.
Set up your vehicles
MileLedger lets you add multiple vehicles and assign a default. Each vehicle stores a nickname, make, model, year, licence plate, and odometer reading — giving you accurate per-vehicle records.
Business vs personal mileage — how to categorize your drives
Every drive in MileLedger can be categorized as Business or Personal. This categorization determines which trips appear in your business reports and affects the accuracy of any mileage deduction or reimbursement claims. Here's how categorization works in MileLedger and why it matters.
