Feature
Budgets & Alerts
Weekly or monthly spend caps with local alerts when you near or exceed them.

Why teams rely on budgets
Set a business meals or overall monthly cap and watch progress as expenses land. Budgets can target a category, custom category, or categorization. When spend crosses your warn percent or goes over, MileLedger can send a local budget alert so you catch it mid-month instead of at export time.
- Weekly, monthly, or yearly budget periods
- Filter by category, custom category, or business versus personal
- On track, nearing limit, and over budget status
- Optional local notifications when thresholds are crossed

How budgets works in practice
Caps that match how you spend
Create a budget for a category (meals, fuel), a custom category, or a whole categorization such as business. Choose weekly, monthly, or yearly periods so the cadence matches how you actually review cash flow.
Progress updates as expenses save. Status moves from on track to nearing limit to over budget based on the warn threshold you set—so “80%” means something concrete for your team or household.
Alerts while you can still change course
Optional local notifications fire when you cross warn or over thresholds. Catching a meals budget mid-month is useful; discovering it in a year-end report is not.
Alerts are on-device reminders, not financial advice. Adjust the budget, pause discretionary spend, or update categorization if personal charges were mis-tagged as business.
Keep budgets honest
Budgets only reflect what is logged. If expenses are missing or still in Free’s expense cap, progress understates reality. Pair budgets with a weekly expense capture habit.
Review budget list status alongside Insights so caps and trends tell the same story before you export for a manager or accountant.
