Mileage Tracking
Log every business mile automatically or by hand, with clear start, end, and estimated value.

Why teams rely on mileage
See the route, categorize the drive, and capture distance before the day gets away from you. MileLedger can detect trips in the background on phone, or you can add a past drive with start, end, vehicle, and notes. Incomplete GPS sessions are flagged for review so mileage stays honest and ready for tax season.
- Automatic background tracking when location access is enabled
- Manual Add a Drive with map route, start, and end in one screen
- Business or personal categorization before you save
- Estimated value and distance at a glance for every trip

How mileage works in practice
How automatic tracking fits real workdays
With Always location access and Background App Refresh enabled, MileLedger can detect when you start and stop driving and create a draft trip for you to review. You stay in control of categorization—business, personal, or needs review—before anything becomes part of a year-end export.
Automatic tracking is designed for busy field days, not for inventing miles. If signal drops, Low Power Mode interrupts the session, or the app was force-quit, the incomplete drive is flagged so you can confirm distance and purpose instead of guessing later.
Add past drives when GPS was not watching
Not every business mile happens while the app is running. Add a Drive lets you enter start and end, pick a date and time, choose a vehicle, and write a short purpose while the trip is still fresh. Map-assisted entry helps you pin locations without rebuilding the route from memory weeks later.
Use the same habit for parking-lot hops, supplier runs, and client visits you forgot to leave tracking on for. A short accurate entry beats a blank day in April.
Categorization and estimated value
Every drive can be marked business or personal before you save. That split is what makes exports useful: business miles feed deduction estimates and reimbursements; personal miles stay out of the total you hand to an accountant.
Estimated value uses the per-mile rate you configure in preferences. Rates are yours to set so they match guidance from your tax professional—MileLedger does not invent rates or claim the estimate is tax advice.
What good mileage hygiene looks like
Confirm uncategorized or flagged drives at the end of the day or week. Spot-check long outliers. Keep purposes specific enough that a stranger (or your future self) can tell client work from commuting.
Pair mileage with the expenses that belong to the same day—fuel, tolls, parking—so your ledger tells one story when reports or tax season arrive.
