Set up your vehicles
MileLedger lets you add multiple vehicles and assign a default. Each vehicle stores a nickname, make, model, year, licence plate, and odometer reading — giving you accurate per-vehicle records.
Prerequisites
- MileLedger installed on phone.
Steps
- 1
Open Vehicles
Tap More in the tab bar, then tap Vehicles. The Vehicles screen lists all vehicles you have added. If you haven't added any yet, it will be empty.
- 2
Add a new vehicle
Tap the add button (usually a + icon in the top-right corner). A form opens where you can enter the vehicle details.
- 3
Enter vehicle details
Fill in the following fields: • Nickname — A short label you'll recognise, such as 'Work Van' or 'Tesla Model 3'. This name appears throughout the app. • Make — The manufacturer, e.g. Ford, Toyota, BMW. • Model — The model name, e.g. F-150, Camry, 3 Series. • Year — The model year of the vehicle. • Licence Plate — Your vehicle's registration plate. This is optional but useful for record-keeping. • Odometer — The current odometer reading when you start tracking. This helps establish a baseline for mileage records.
- 4
Save the vehicle
Tap Save (or Done). The vehicle is added to your list. If this is the first vehicle you've added, MileLedger automatically sets it as the default.
- 5
Set a default vehicle
If you have multiple vehicles, you can designate one as the default. The default vehicle is pre-selected when you manually log a new drive, saving time. To change the default, tap the vehicle you want to set as default and look for a 'Set as Default' option.
- 6
Edit a vehicle
Tap any vehicle in the list to open its detail screen. Tap the edit button to update any field — for example to correct a typo, update the odometer, or change the nickname.
- 7
Delete a vehicle
To remove a vehicle, open its detail screen and look for a Delete option. Note that deleting a vehicle does not delete the drives associated with it — those remain in your Drives history.
Expected results
- At least one vehicle appears in the Vehicles list.
- A default vehicle is set and pre-selects automatically when you log a new drive.
- Vehicle details (make, model, year, plate, odometer) are saved correctly.
Important notes
- You can add as many vehicles as you need. There is no limit on the number of vehicles.
- For accurate reimbursement and tax records, it's good practice to record an odometer reading when you add a vehicle and update it periodically.
- Drives are associated with a vehicle at the time of recording. If you log a drive on the wrong vehicle, you can edit the drive to correct the association.
Common problems
My vehicle doesn't appear when I log a new drive.
Check that the vehicle was saved correctly in More → Vehicles. If it appears in the list but isn't pre-selected on new drives, confirm that it is set as the default vehicle.
I accidentally deleted a vehicle.
Vehicles cannot be recovered after deletion, but your drives are not deleted along with them. Re-add the vehicle with the same details and, if needed, manually re-associate drives by editing them.
