What counts as a business drive?
In MileLedger, a business drive is any drive you manually categorize as Business — either by tapping the categorization button or letting an automation rule set it. The app does not apply IRS rules or judge whether a drive qualifies as deductible. That determination is your responsibility and your tax professional's.
Categorization is yours to confirm
MileLedger can suggest a category from **Smart Routes**, **Saved Places**, and **Work Hours** — in that order — but you are always in control. Tap a drive (or use Home → Needs you) to confirm or change it anytime.
Saved Places match a single location; Smart Routes match a repeated route. See **Saved Places vs Smart Routes** for details.
Only drives categorized as Business count toward business mileage totals in reports.
IRS rules are not applied automatically
The IRS has specific rules about which drives are deductible — for example, commuting from home to a regular workplace is generally not deductible. MileLedger does not know your work situation and cannot apply these rules for you.
Review your categorized drives with a tax professional to confirm which ones are legitimately deductible for your situation.
Important notes
- MileLedger does not provide tax advice. The business categorization in the app is a record-keeping label, not an IRS determination.
