Receipt images not appearing
Receipt images attached to expenses are stored locally on your phone and are not synced to the web app. If a receipt image is missing from an expense, the cause is usually a permission issue, the image being taken on a different device, or the expense being viewed on the web.
Steps
- 1
Confirm you are viewing the expense on the phone app
Receipt images are not available on the web app. Open the MileLedger phone app, navigate to the Expenses tab, and open the specific expense to see its receipt attachment.
- 2
Check camera and photo library permissions
Go to Settings → MileLedger → Photos and confirm access is set to 'Full' or 'Limited' (not 'None'). Go to Settings → MileLedger → Camera and confirm it is enabled. Update permissions if needed, then attempt to re-attach the receipt.
- 3
Re-attach the receipt if it was not saved
Open the expense, tap Edit, then tap Add Attachment. Use the camera to scan the physical receipt or select an image from your photo library. Tap Save after attaching to persist the image.
- 4
Check available phone storage
Go to Settings → General → phone Storage. If storage is critically low (less than 1 GB free), clear space by deleting unused apps or media, then attempt to attach the receipt again.
Why receipt images might be missing
Viewing on the web app: receipt images are stored locally on your phone. They do not sync to the cloud and do not appear in the web app. To view a receipt image, open the expense in the MileLedger phone app.
Camera or photo library permission denied: if MileLedger does not have camera or photo library access, you cannot attach new receipt images. Previously attached images are not affected, but adding new ones will fail silently or show an error.
Image was not saved before leaving the expense form: if you attached a receipt image but navigated away without tapping Save, the attachment was not persisted.
Different device: if you added a receipt on an older phone and are now using a different device, the receipt image exists only on the original device.
Insufficient storage: on a device with very low available storage, image saves can fail without a clear error. Check your phone's available storage in Settings → General → phone Storage.
Important notes
- Receipt images are stored locally on your phone only. They do not sync to Firebase or appear in the web app.
- If your phone is lost or replaced, receipt images are not recoverable unless you have an iCloud backup or manually transferred them.
- For important receipts, consider keeping a separate archive in your photo library or cloud storage in addition to attaching them in MileLedger.
Common problems
I can see the expense on the web but there is no receipt attached.
Receipt images do not sync to the web app. Open the expense in the MileLedger phone app to view the attached receipt image.
I tap 'Add Attachment' but nothing happens.
Check camera and photo library permissions in Settings → MileLedger. If permissions are granted and the issue persists, force-close MileLedger, reopen it, and try again.
