Duplicate drives or expenses

Duplicate drives or expenses can appear in MileLedger when automatic tracking fires alongside a manual entry for the same trip, or when an entry is saved twice. MileLedger flags likely duplicates — this guide explains how to identify and delete them.

Steps

  1. 1

Look for 'Possible Duplicate' flags in the Drives tab

In the Drives tab, scroll through your recent entries. Drives flagged as 'Possible Duplicate' are identified by MileLedger as likely duplicates of another entry. Tap the flagged entry to review it and compare it with its suggested duplicate.

  2. 2

    Compare the two entries

Compare the date, distance, start and end location, and categorization of the suspected duplicates. If both entries represent the same journey, keep the one with the more accurate details and delete the other.

  3. 3

    Delete the duplicate drive

On the Drives list, swipe left on the duplicate entry to reveal the Delete button. Tap Delete to remove it. Alternatively, open the drive detail and tap the trash icon or Delete option.

  4. 4

    Check for duplicate expenses

In the Expenses tab, filter by a specific date or amount to find duplicate entries. Compare merchant, date, and amount. Delete the duplicate by swiping left on it in the Expenses list.

  5. 5

Prevent future duplicates from automatic tracking

If automatic tracking is on and you frequently add trips manually as well, disable automatic tracking (More → Preferences → Automatic Tracking off) and use manual-only entry, or rely solely on automatic tracking and review each auto-captured drive for accuracy.

Why duplicates occur

Automatic + manual entry conflict: if automatic tracking recorded a drive and you also added the same drive manually, both entries will appear. Automatic trips are usually flagged with a 'Possible Duplicate' status when the app detects a very similar entry.

Tapping Save multiple times: tapping the Save button multiple times quickly on a slow network connection can occasionally create duplicate expense entries.

Sync edge case: in rare cases, a sync conflict during a poor network connection can result in two versions of the same drive or expense appearing.

Expected results

  • The duplicate entry is removed and totals return to expected values.
  • The remaining entry retains the correct distance, date, and categorization.

Important notes

  • Deleting a drive or expense is permanent and cannot be undone within the app.
  • If you delete the wrong entry, re-add it manually from the Drives or Expenses tab.

Common problems

I have many duplicates and it is taking a long time to clean up.

Sort the Drives tab by date and work through the duplicates chronologically. For each pair, keep the one with the better GPS trace or more complete information and delete the other. If the duplicates are numerous, consider whether automatic tracking settings need adjustment.

After deleting a duplicate, the 'Possible Duplicate' flag remains on another entry.

MileLedger may take a moment to re-evaluate flags after a deletion. Pull down on the Drives list to refresh, and the flag should clear.
