Calculating miles is easy. Tracking every drive is easier.

MileLedger logs business miles on phone so you are not reconstructing a year from memory at tax time.

How this tool works

Choose a tax year, then enter one or more mileage periods with start date, end date, and business miles. The calculator looks up the IRS rate table for each period and multiplies miles by the matching rate.

When a single entry spans multiple IRS rate windows (for example, all of 2026), miles are allocated across periods by calendar-day share so mid-year rate changes are reflected.

Calculation methodology

Formula: estimated deduction = Σ (miles in rate period × IRS business rate for that period).

Charity, medical, and moving rates are published separately and are not mixed into the business calculation on this page. Rates are stored in a dated configuration table with IRS citation identifiers so future notices can be added without rewriting the UI.

Worked example

Example: 3,000 business miles from Jan–Jun 2026 and 2,500 from Jul–Dec 2026.

Estimate ≈ (3,000 × $0.725) + (2,500 × $0.76) = $2,175 + $1,900 = $4,075 before eligibility limits. Your facts may differ.
