Unable to sign in to MileLedger

MileLedger uses Google Sign-In exclusively for authentication. If the sign-in flow fails to complete, the cause is almost always a network issue, a Google account selection error, or an iOS permission problem. This guide walks through every common fix.

Steps

  1. 1

    Check your internet connection

Google Sign-In requires an active internet connection. Confirm that your phone or browser can load a webpage (e.g. apple.com) before attempting sign-in again.

  2. 2

Verify you are selecting the correct Google account

When the Google account picker appears, select the account associated with your MileLedger data. If you have multiple Google accounts, confirm which one you used when you first set up MileLedger. Selecting the wrong account creates a new, empty workspace rather than restoring your existing data.

  3. 3

Force-close MileLedger and try again (phone)

Swipe up from the bottom of the screen (or double-press the Home button) to open the app switcher. Swipe the MileLedger card upward to force-close it. Reopen MileLedger and attempt sign-in again.

  4. 4

Check that MileLedger has internet access (phone)

Go to Settings → MileLedger and confirm that 'Mobile Data' (or 'Cellular Data') is enabled. If you are on Wi-Fi, check that Wi-Fi is connected and working for other apps.

  5. 5

Update MileLedger to the latest version

Open the App Store, tap your profile icon, and check for pending MileLedger updates. Install any available update, then attempt sign-in again.

  6. 6

Try signing in from the web app

If the phone app sign-in is failing, try signing in at mileledger.app/app in a browser instead. If the web sign-in succeeds, the issue is likely specific to the phone app.

  7. 7

Sign in through a different browser or clear the browser cache

On the web app: if Chrome fails, try Safari or Firefox. Alternatively, clear the browser cache and cookies for mileledger.app, then try again.

  8. 8

Check your Google account for security alerts

A recent password change, suspicious activity alert, or two-factor authentication challenge on your Google account can interrupt the sign-in flow. Visit myaccount.google.com to check for and resolve any security alerts.

Symptoms

Tapping 'Continue with Google' produces no response or briefly flashes a screen and returns.

The Google account picker sheet appears but dismisses without completing sign-in.

Sign-in completes on the Google side but MileLedger returns to the sign-in screen with no error message.

The web app at /app shows 'Sign in with Google' again immediately after you selected your account.

An error message such as 'Something went wrong' or 'Network error' appears during the sign-in flow.

Expected results

  • Sign-in completes and MileLedger shows your data (or an empty workspace if you are a new user).
  • The web app loads your synced trips and expenses after sign-in.

Important notes

  • MileLedger supports email/password and Google Sign-In. Apple ID, Facebook, and other providers are not available.
  • If you have never signed in before, your workspace will be empty after first sign-in. Begin recording drives and expenses in the phone app.

Common problems

Sign-in succeeds but I see no data.

Check that you signed in with the same Google account used previously. If the account is correct, data must be synced from the phone app first — open the app, ensure it is signed in, and wait for the sync to complete before refreshing the web app.

The Google account sheet does not appear at all when I tap Sign In.

This usually means there is a network or iOS permission issue. Confirm internet access, then check Settings → Privacy & Security → Google on phone to ensure MileLedger is allowed. Restart your phone and try again.
