How accurate is mileage tracking?
MileLedger uses the phone's built-in GPS to record drives. Accuracy is generally good in open areas but can be affected by GPS signal quality, tunnels, urban canyons, and other interference. Drives flagged with a low-GPS-accuracy quality indicator may need manual review.
How distance is measured
MileLedger records GPS coordinates throughout each drive and calculates the total distance travelled. Distance is stored in metres internally and converted to miles or kilometres for display.
Factors that affect accuracy
GPS signal quality — poor signal in tunnels, parking garages, and dense urban areas can reduce accuracy.
Short trips — very short trips may have proportionally larger GPS errors.
Low Power Mode — iOS may limit GPS sampling frequency in Low Power Mode, potentially reducing accuracy.
Quality flags
If MileLedger detects potential accuracy issues during a drive, it may flag the trip with a quality indicator (e.g., Low GPS Accuracy). Review flagged drives and edit the distance manually if needed.
Manual editing
You can manually edit the distance on any drive. Open the drive, tap Edit, and change the distance field. Edited distances are used in all reports.
