Sync and cloud backup
Cloud sync in MileLedger is free for all signed-in users. It uses Firebase to keep your drives, expenses, vehicles, and settings consistent across your phone and the MileLedger web app. Sync starts automatically when you sign in and runs in the background.
How sync works
When you are signed in, MileLedger pushes changes to Firebase shortly after you make them. It also pulls changes made on other devices when the app comes to the foreground.
Sync is bidirectional: changes on phone appear on the web and vice versa.
Sync does not require a Premium subscription — it is free for all signed-in users.
What syncs
Drives (trips), expenses, vehicles, mileage rates, saved locations, and app settings all sync to your Firebase account.
Receipt images sync to Firebase Storage.
Some device-specific settings (notification state, widget state) are local-only and do not sync.
Sync on the web
The MileLedger web app at mileledger.com reads your Firebase data when you sign in. Changes made on the web (e.g., viewing reports, downloading a CSV) do not currently write new drives or expenses back to Firebase — the web is primarily a read and export surface.
Sync delays
In normal conditions, sync completes within a few seconds. Slow or offline conditions will delay sync. The app continues to work offline; changes are queued and synced when connectivity is restored.
If a record appears missing on one device, give sync a moment to complete, then pull to refresh.
Signing out stops sync
Signing out disconnects sync. Your local data is preserved on the device, but no further syncing occurs until you sign back in.
Important notes
- Cloud sync is free for signed-in users and does not require Premium.
- Sync requires an internet connection. Data created offline is synced when a connection is available.
