Trip history is missing or incomplete

If trips you expected to see are missing from the Drives tab, the most common causes are active filters hiding them, a sign-in issue, or drives being stored locally on a device you are no longer using. This guide helps you identify and resolve each scenario.

Steps

  1. 1

Clear active filters in the Drives tab

In the Drives tab, tap the filter icon and reset all filters to 'All'. Check that the date range covers the period you are looking for. Remove any vehicle or categorization filters.

  2. 2

Confirm you are signed in with the correct Google account

Tap More → Account on phone to see the signed-in email address. If it is not the account you expect, sign out and sign back in with the correct account.

  3. 3

Wait for sync to complete (web app)

If you are viewing the web app and trips are missing, ensure the phone app is signed in and connected to the internet. Wait a minute for sync to complete and then refresh the web page.

  4. 4

Check for trips with quality flags

Look for trips marked 'Needs Review', 'Short Trip', or 'Low GPS Accuracy' in the Drives tab. These may be excluded from summary views but are still recorded. Enable 'Show all' to include them.

  5. 5

    Add missing drives manually

If specific trips are genuinely missing and cannot be recovered, add them manually: tap the '+' button in the Drives tab, enter the trip details, and save.

Common reasons trip history appears missing

Active filters: the Drives tab includes date, categorization (business/personal), and vehicle filters. If a filter is active, it may hide trips that do not match. Clear all filters to see your full history.

Wrong account: if you signed in with a different Google account than you used previously, you will see that account's data (which may be empty). Verify the account shown in More → Account matches the email you used originally.

Drives stored locally on another device: MileLedger stores drives locally on the phone using SwiftData. If you are looking at a new phone or a reinstalled app, drives recorded before the last cloud sync may not appear until they are synced from the original device — or may be gone if the original device was lost.

Short trips filtered from reports: trips shorter than approximately 0.5 miles are recorded but may be excluded from certain report views. They remain in the Drives tab; look for a 'Show all trips' option.

Drives with 'Needs Review' status: these drives exist but may be excluded from default views depending on your settings.

Important notes

  • MileLedger's cloud sync backs up drives recorded while the app is signed in and connected. Drives recorded without a Google account sign-in are stored locally only and are not recoverable if the device is lost or the app is reinstalled without a backup.
  • If you used MileLedger before signing in with Google, those pre-sign-in local drives are device-specific and are not synced to the cloud.

Common problems

All my trips disappeared after reinstalling the app.

If you were signed in with Google before reinstalling, sign back in with the same Google account after reinstalling. Your synced drives will be restored from the cloud. Drives recorded before you ever signed in are stored locally only and cannot be recovered after a reinstall.

The web app shows fewer trips than the phone app.

The web app shows only cloud-synced data. Drives recorded while offline or before sign-in may exist on the phone but not yet in the cloud. Ensure the phone is connected to the internet and signed in, then refresh the web app after a minute.
