Sync is delayed — updates taking a long time

Sync delays in MileLedger are usually caused by the app not being in the foreground when changes were saved, a slow or intermittent internet connection, or a large number of records being synced for the first time. This guide explains how to speed up sync and what to expect.

Steps

  1. 1

Switch to Wi-Fi for faster sync

Connect your phone to a Wi-Fi network before opening MileLedger. Wi-Fi provides significantly higher bandwidth for syncing large datasets.

  2. 2

Leave the app open in the foreground

Open MileLedger and leave it on screen for at least 2 minutes. Do not switch to another app during this time. Sync progresses while the app is visible.

  3. 3

Refresh the web app after waiting

After leaving the phone app open for a few minutes, refresh the web app (Cmd+R or F5). Your data should be more current.

  4. 4

Check for a sign-in issue blocking sync

Tap More → Account on phone. If you see a Sign In button instead of your account details, sync cannot occur. Sign back in and let the app sync from the foreground.

Why sync can be delayed

Foreground requirement for live sync: drives and expenses sync in real time only while the MileLedger app is open on screen (foreground). If the app is in the background when you return to it, pending sync operations begin as soon as you bring the app to the foreground.

Network quality: sync speed depends on your internet connection quality. On a slow or congested mobile data connection, sync may take longer than on Wi-Fi.

First sync after sign-in: if you have a large number of existing drives or expenses, the initial sync after signing in on a new device may take several minutes as all records upload or download.

Batch sync for other collections: vehicle settings, preferences, and similar collections are synced in batches rather than in real time. Changes to these items may take a minute or two to appear on the web app even with a good connection.

How to speed up sync

Open MileLedger on the phone and leave it on screen with a Wi-Fi connection. Wi-Fi is significantly faster than mobile data for large sync operations.

For first-time sync on a new device, expect to wait several minutes if you have accumulated many drives and expenses over time.

If the app has been closed for an extended period, open it and keep it in the foreground for 2–5 minutes to allow batch sync operations to complete before checking the web app.

Important notes

  • Sync is designed to be near-instant for drives and expenses while the app is in the foreground. If updates consistently take more than a few minutes under good network conditions, contact support at /contact.
  • The web app does not push-refresh automatically. Always manually refresh the browser page after a sync operation to see the latest data.

Common problems

I waited several minutes but the web app still shows old data.

Confirm the phone app is signed in with the same Google account as the web app. Force a hard refresh of the browser (Cmd+Shift+R or Ctrl+Shift+R). If it still shows old data, try signing out and back in to the web app.

Vehicle changes I made are not appearing on the web app.

Vehicle settings sync in batches, not in real time. Allow 2–5 minutes after opening the phone app in the foreground, then refresh the web app.
