Troubleshooting: missing trips

If automatic trips are not appearing in the Drives list, the most common causes are insufficient location permissions, the app being force-quit, Low Power Mode, or Airplane Mode. This guide walks through each scenario.

Check location permission

Go to **phone Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → MileLedger**.

The permission must be set to **Always**. If it shows **While Using the App**, **Ask Next Time**, or **Never**, background trip detection is disabled.

Change it to **Always** and return to MileLedger. Confirm that **Automatic Tracking** is toggled on in **MileLedger → Settings → Tracking**.

Avoid force-quitting the app

Swiping MileLedger away in the iOS app switcher terminates its background process. iOS may restart the app on the next significant location change, but any in-progress trip is lost and marked **Interrupted Session**.

You do not need to keep MileLedger open or visible—iOS will wake it in the background when needed, as long as it has not been force-quit.

Low Power Mode

iOS significantly restricts background app activity when **Low Power Mode** is on. Background location updates and Core Motion processing can be delayed or suspended entirely.

If you frequently drive in Low Power Mode, consider charging your device or manually starting a recording instead.

Airplane Mode

Airplane Mode disables the GPS radio. No location data can be collected while Airplane Mode is active. Trips taken with Airplane Mode on will not be recorded automatically.

Motion & Fitness access

While not strictly required, Motion & Fitness access improves trip detection accuracy. Without it, MileLedger may miss the start of a drive or fail to distinguish driving from walking.

Enable it at **phone Settings → Privacy & Security → Motion & Fitness → MileLedger**.

Short trips below the minimum threshold

Trips shorter than approximately 0.5 miles (804.672 m) are recorded but hidden from the default Drives view. They appear when you filter by the **Short Trip** quality flag.

Check the stop-settle delay

After you park, MileLedger waits about **15 minutes** before finalising and saving the trip. If you check the app immediately after arriving, the trip may not have appeared yet. Wait the settle period and refresh the Drives list.

Common problems

Drives appear only sometimes

Intermittent detection is most often caused by the app being force-quit between some drives, or by Low Power Mode being on during some trips. Check the conditions at the time of each missed drive.

The first drive after reinstalling was not captured

After reinstalling, iOS resets location permissions to the default. Re-grant Always access in Settings before your first drive.
