Manually add a drive

If automatic tracking missed a trip, or you prefer to log drives by hand, MileLedger offers two manual options: start a live recording that tracks GPS in real time, or enter a past drive by typing addresses and a distance.

Option A – Start a live recording

Open the **Drives** tab and tap the **+** button, then choose **Start Recording**.

MileLedger begins GPS sampling immediately. Drive normally—the app will record your route in real time.

When you reach your destination, tap **Stop Recording**. The trip is saved and appears at the top of the Drives list.

Live recordings use the same GPS filtering and distance calculation as automatic trips, so the resulting distance is based on real GPS data.

Option B – Add a past drive

Open the **Drives** tab and tap **+**, then choose **Add Past Drive**.

Enter a **Start address** and **End address**. MileLedger uses MapKit to geocode your addresses and can optionally calculate the driving distance via road routing.

You can override the calculated distance by typing your own value—useful when the actual route differed from the suggested one.

Set the **Date and time** of the drive, choose a **Vehicle** if applicable, and add a **Purpose** or **Note** before saving.

Important notes

  • Past drives entered by address are flagged so you can distinguish them from GPS-tracked drives in reports.
  • Live manual recordings benefit from the same GPS quality checks as automatic trips and may receive quality flags if signal was poor.
  • Drives cannot be created from the web app—use the phone app for both live and past-entry options.

Common problems

MapKit cannot find my address

Try a more complete address (include city and state/province). You can also enter an approximate address and then correct the distance manually.

The calculated road distance doesn't match what I actually drove

Tap the distance field and type the correct value. The manually entered distance overrides the MapKit estimate.
